- Participation in Architectural Student Competition by Corus Group – H2Ouse: house_on_water (UK 2007)
The house project was chosen to be located east coast of Athens, Greece, at seaside area of Porto Pafti. The basic idea for this project is to create two different volumes boxes. Each box would serve different facilities of the house in order to accent the difference between private and public areas of the house. The first box which underlines the horizontal axis, contains “public” facilities. The second box underlines the vertical axis so it concludes two levels. On the second level are the “private” facilities of the house.
Apart from the privacy and quiet which this level offers is also the panoramic view to the sea. That is that the big openings are oriented to the south on which are incorporated a system of sun protection. Another parameter which effects the concept of this project is the main entrance. How I get into the house? A ramp connects the ground with the two boxes. The entrance represents the void between the volumes and the ultimate limit between in and out. Also the ramp represents the linchpin between the house and the outdoor environment.
Finally, the deck under the house is the connection with the sea water. The role of the deck is to incorporate sea facilities like fishing or swimming. Also this deck is like a small private parking spot for the family boat. It is possible to have an extra moving-system so it may be adjust to any change of the level of the sea.
